The Scott Hannon Memorial Foundation
On June 22, 1991, a tragic automobile accident claimed the life of Scott Hannon. Scott was a rising junior at East Carolina University. His family, along with a close group of friends, decided to initiate an annual golf tournament in his honor.
The inaugural tournament, held just six months after his death, hosted only sixteen players in a one-day event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Over the past 16 years the tournament has grown significantly. This past year we hosted 256 participants in what is now a two-day tournament. By all account of those who attend, The Scott Hannon Memorial Golf Tournament is a one of a kind event.
With our growth, our ability to reach out and touch the lives of those less fortunate has also grown. Over the past thirteen years the tournament has raised thousands of dollars to benefit several children’s charities. Some of these charities are referenced on the Benefactors page of this website. In 1998 The Scott Hannon Memorial Foundation was formed to administer the distribution of this money. The foundation operates as a 501c(3) tax-exempt organization in the State of South Carolina. There is a Board of Directors in place consisting of six volunteers serving in that capacity. The Foundation bylaws are on file with the Board Secretary and are available upon request.
Our purpose is simple, to improve the self-esteem and heal the hurts of children by providing hope, love, and needed assistance. It is our desire that those children will then share with others what was shared with them. We do this in celebration of the life of Scott Hannon.
